How to maintain a balanced pipeline and appeal to all

Gender diversity is still a major problem in some industries and within leadership teams. Often, a lack of a "good pipeline" is blamed for the absence of women in particular roles but little is being done to fix it.

Organizations must take an active role in creating a gender-balanced workforce as part of an inclusive and diverse company culture.

One step in the right direction is to post your jobs in the right places - where women can see them. Women-focused job boards have become a strategic asset for employers looking to close the gender talent gap, widen their pool of candidates and experience the many benefits of diversity. Having amassed a dataset from over 100,000 applicants, here are our 2019 top job boards for gender diversity.

Read our blog post if you're curious how we did it. Want to do more? Words matter and the likelihood is that some of your job descriptions are putting off people (usually women) from applying to your jobs.

Research has shown that the use of gender-coded language (and excessive requirements) in job descriptions limits the number of female applicants. This can be fixed with our gender decoder tool, which detects bias in job descriptions and suggests fair and inclusive alternatives.

Why we do this

Applied is a data-driven end-to-end recruitment platform focused on quality and diversity of hire. We track which job boards our candidates come from, and can combine this at a high level with the assessment scores and diversity breakdown of those groups of candidates from our platform.

We decided to democratise this data to start helping teams make data-driven (rather than gut-driven!) hiring decisions. Please treat it as indicative at the moment, but we’ve written a bit more about what the data is, where it comes from and what it is not, here.
