The Centre for Public Impact is a not-for-profit foundation, funded by The Boston Consulting Group, dedicated to improving the positive impact of governments. We help governments to increase their chances of achieving positive outcomes for citizens using our framework for public impact. We also bring together world leaders to learn, exchange ideas and inspire each other to strengthen the public impact of their organisations.

With offices in London, Washington DC and São Paulo, we are now recruiting for a Senior Programme Associate to be based in Sydney – our first role in Australia.

Who are we looking for?

Role profile:

• Support the development and brand of CPI in Australia including identifying new opportunities, building relationships and representing CPI at events

• Work closely with CPI’s global programme and communications teams by contributing to our research projects, product development and brand development

• Support CPI to help drive further, deeper and more sustainable public impact in Australia and New Zealand, including:

• Convening and organising forums for discussion drawing on CPI and other experts

• Managing programmes for governments in Australia/New Zealand that include international guest speakers, videoconferences with CPI experts worldwide, and local workshops

• Curating and distributing best practice materials to interested officials

• Support officials to develop study tours overseas to further understanding of public impact, connecting to CPI and other experts, especially in Europe and North America

• Curation of case studies and other material leveraging CPI databases and materials, as well as leveraging other available case studies and tools

• Running CPI Public Impact Labs with relevant governments

• Some administrative support in relation to establishing CPI in Australia and New Zealand

• Working with The Boston Consulting Group and other organisations from time to time where that is consistent with the mission of CPI

Key topics for CPI in Australia and New Zealand currently include:

• True outcomes/impact-based budgeting and resource planning

• The future of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence, and what government should do

• How to ensure impact through the strategic finance function in government in the 21st century

• Legitimacy and public trust

Key skills and attributes

• Dynamism and self-starting – an entrepreneurial mindset

• Good time management, organisation and creativity

• Good interpersonal skills e.g., able to interact with senior government officials

• Understands (or can come to) the process requirements of a government department

• Understands government more broadly, including at a high level the functions of Treasuries and Ministries of Finance

• Understands the broad Westminster version of government i.e., how governments work in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, UK and Canada

• Interest in, and understanding of how finance and strategy works in the private sector as models for government to learn from

• Proficiency in PowerPoint

• Solid writing skills

This is a 12-18 month fixed-term contract (with potential to extend) for a full-time position (40 hours per week) working from The Boston Consulting Group’s offices in Sydney. Note that you should ensure that you meet the necessary legal requirements and are eligible for work in Australia. CPI is unable to act as a sponsor or provide visa support.

The precise start date is negotiable.
