We are looking for an experienced social impact professional to join us as Impact Manager. You will join a fast-paced, close-knit team in the UK’s leading innovation foundation and have an instrumental role in developing the social impact capabilities of arts & cultural organisations.

Cultural Impact Development Loans (CIDL) is a new fund being developed by our expanding Arts & Culture Finance Team. The team works towards building a more financially resilient arts and cultural sector in the UK using the tools of repayable finance. We believe that resilient organisations are in a stronger position to take creative risks, innovate and thrive in an increasingly competitive operating environment.

CIDL will provide unsecured finance and social impact monitoring and evaluation support to arts & culture organisations across England. In doing so, it will enable the sector to better articulate its impact to funders, policy-makers and the public. CIDL builds on the work of the pioneering Arts Impact Fund - the first dedicated social impact investment fund for the arts & cultural sector – which has made over 20 unsecured investments across a range of art forms and business models in England since 2015.

About the role

You will lead on the delivery of the social impact elements of the CIDL programme. In particular, this role includes:

  • Leading the capacity development work on CIDL applicants through a combination of desk research, face-to-face conversations and workshop facilitation to produce, for each applicant taken to substantive due diligence
  • Sharing learning with the wider arts & cultural sector around social impact evidence and best practice M&E approaches from the CIDL portfolio, including representing and presenting on our behalf at events
  • Developing new tools and methods that will help arts & cultural organisations to better capture and articulate their social impact, and grow their impact as a whole
  • Working with the Impact Director to share learning and best practice and feed into Nesta’s thought leadership in the area
  • Supporting the Investment Manager with origination of new investment opportunities and the development of investment applications to the CIDL investment committee
  • Feeding-in social impact performance data into reports on fund performance for CIDL’s internal and external stakeholders
  • Working closely with the Investment Manager who will be responsible for end-to-end deal-making

You’ll need proven experience in one or more of the following areas of work related to social impact: direct M&E, consultancy, research or investing, and a track record or leading or contributing to leadership in the social impact area.

You will be a curious, open minded critical thinker who can engage colleagues in dealing with complex challenges, you have the ability to analyse, interrogate and develop organisational theories of change. You also have effective, influential public speaking skills and the ability to explain complex issues to a wide range of audiences.
