Job Description

The Centre for Public Impact (CPI) is a global non-profit foundation, launched by The Boston Consulting Group, that helps governments and their partners turn ideas into impact.

The newly launched CPI team in North America works to advance innovative, actionable solutions that lead to better outcomes for citizens. We do this by being:

  • a place where leaders and influencers come together to share insights
  • a trusted expert voice and source of insight on public impact themes
  • a source of practical tools and advice on how to deliver outcomes for citizens
  • a partner to organizations seeking to drive public impact and social innovation

This role will include responsibility, in close collaboration with the CPI Program Manager for North America, for executing the Centre's program of activities and external partnerships. A core part of this program is the Mayors Challenge, a competition developed and funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies that encourages cities to generate bold ideas that solve major challenges and improve city life. The Program Associate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day execution of the Challenge. The Program Associate will report to the CPI Program Manager, North America.

1. Support execution of Mayors Challenge
  • Support the delivery of the Mayors Challenge in accordance with CPI's goals and the program objectives set by Bloomberg Philanthropies
  • In consultation with the CPI Program Manager, North America, manage and execute a workstream of the Mayors Challenge program
  • In consultation with the CPI Program Manager, North America, maintain open and ongoing communication with Bloomberg Philanthropies team members and other stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient program delivery
  • In consultation with the CPI Program Manager, North America, liaise with Mayors Challenge participants (e.g., applicant cities), developing tools and coaching consistent with the goals of the Mayor's Challenge
2. Support overall program management for the Mayors Challenge
  • In partnership with the CPI Program Manager, North America, provide inputs to status reports on progress as required by the Bloomberg Philanthropies team
  • On behalf of Bloomberg Philanthropies, manage key vendor relationships needed to support successful execution of the Mayor's Challenge
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of workstream operations to ensure that the Mayor's Challenge operates within the approved budget and deadlines  3. CPI strategy and operations development
  • Support CPI Program Manager, North America to the build out broader program operations strategy and infrastructure to support future program efforts and pipeline
  • With consultation with the CPI Program Manager and Directors, North America, support the development of an operating plan to bring this strategy to fruition
4. Thought leadership and insight development
  • Take program-related learnings to find platforms to disseminate lessons learned and leading practices to a wider audience
  • Support efforts to ensure CPI North America remains at the cutting-edge and is positioned as the go-to source on information and insight on public impact in the region
5. Partnerships and commercial development
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic partnerships that enable CPI to better achieve its mission building on program learnings and relationships
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
  • At least 2 years relevant professional experience, ideally in a strategy consulting environment to BCG Associate-level or equivalent.
  • University degree with demonstrated high academic achievement in a relevant field (e.g., public policy, economics, government, social entrepreneurship or similar).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and passion for the public and social sector, relevant work experience in government, international organizations and/or think tanks ideally with experience interacting with the most senior government stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage all levels of seniority
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills (excellent English a prerequisite)
  • Self-starter, good at prioritizing, able to tolerate ambiguity
  • Service-oriented and proactive
  • Proven organizational skills, able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple parallel tasks
  • Strong presence and high level of maturity
