Job Description

About Us

The Behavioural Insights Team is a social purpose company whose mission is to achieve social impact by helping organisations apply behavioural insights. In New Zealand, we work with government departments in a range of policy areas including unemployment, health and financial savings.

Located in Wellington, we are a small and agile team, working in a fast-paced but collaborative and supportive environment.

Recently, we have won a number of exciting new projects, and we’re now looking for an Associate Advisor to join our team. Associate Advisors are typically recent graduates or have one to two years’ work experience, although we are open to candidates with a range of work experience.

About You

We’re looking for someone passionate about applying behavioural insights to improve outcomes for individuals and organisations.

Most of our team have a degree in economics, psychology, data science & research methods, or a background in government policymaking. This, however, isn’t a requirement for the role. For all applicants, an understanding of the behavioural science literature is preferable, and if you are passionate and knowledgeable about this field we encourage you to apply. We take pride in our values of social impact, empiricism and humility, fresh thinking, collaboration, and public service, and you will need to demonstrate a commitment to these too.

Experience working with tangata whenua and/ or Pacific Island communities would be an advantage, as is experience with data analysis.

About the Role

As an Associate Advisor, you will:

  • Assist in the design and delivery of projects across a broad range of policy areas.
  • Develop expertise in BI-relevant policy knowledge and/or research methodology.
  • Prepare content for and attend client meetings.
  • Deliver training and presentations.
  • Undertake research and write draft reports.
  • Prepare draft policy papers, trial checklists, ideas notes, and literature reviews.
  • Conduct qualitative research, such as participant observation and interviews.
  • Dependent on the skills, it may also include data management and analysis.

In addition, as we are highly empirical, your role will also involve evaluating our ideas so we can be confident that they are effective and worth scaling up.

Lastly, although the role is challenging, we provide a supportive environment where you can develop your skills and knowledge in this fast-evolving field. We also offer flexible working arrangements and other policies to ensure the health and wellbeing of everyone on the team.

Application Notes
  • The application process includes an online test, an interview, and participation in an assessment centre. We expect it to be completed by late February.
  • Applications can only be considered if you have the right to live and work in New Zealand. We will not be able to sponsor any candidates requiring a visa.
  • Due to the volume of applications we receive we may not be able to provide feedback
Do not upload your CV
  • There will be instructions in Question 4 to upload a written response into the "CV upload" section. If we require your CV we will email and request it from you at a later date.
Applications close 11:59PM (NZDT) Sunday 4 February 2018

If you have already applied for the Associate Advisor - Sydney role (closing 14 January 2018) and wish to be considered for this New Zealand role, you do not need to complete this process again, simply email us at recruitmentaus@bi.team and we will add you to the New Zealand candidate pool.
