Job Description

We're looking for our 2nd hire at Applied.

Applied was created to help people to hire the best person every time, regardless of their background. Actually doing that starts with us.

With our first round of investment and major sales coming in, we’re now taking our ideas forward to build a sustainable, inspiring and rewarding business. We guarantee that won’t be easy. But we can make it easier by being sensible with how we grow and bringing in the right people.

We're looking for an individual who is creative, curious and user-focused to work with the team on rapid prototyping and development of the front end of our platform.

More than engineering, now is an exciting time to join the team if you are passionate about rethinking the hiring process, and wish to have a serious impact on its re-creation.

From a technical standpoint, we're looking for someone who knows (or is keen to learn quickly!):

  • HTML & CSS

  • JavaScript

  • Data visualisation (we mostly use D3)

From a team perspective, we think the following things are important:

  • Comfort with early stage products, i.e. uncertainty and responsibility

  • Empathy and communication skills

  • Diligence

Entirely optional, but may be useful:

  • Node.js

  • Elasticsearch

  • An interest in evidence-based approaches

We span out of the UK Govt's Behavioural Insights Team (aka the 'nudge unit'), so the Applied founding team are pretty hot on using behavioural science and design to inform how we build and test product. Marrying this interest with UX know-how is something we are really excited about.

If you want this job we're hoping that you already know or are quick to learn how to do these things. We've designed this application to unearth that by asking you about some actual challenges we are thinking about.

Alongside all other Applied team members you will benefit from.

  • Equity in the business

  • Open and fair pay (yep we put all payslips in the shared drive)

  • Role in all aspects of the business, including being involved in making this business a special place to work
